Ratios: Question 2 – Sharing according to ages or seniority

The ages of three children in a family are Ada 8 years, Ade 6 years and Ado 14 years respectively. If the sum of $4.2m is to be shared among them in the ratio of their ages, calculate how much each gets.
Solution
Given that their ages are 8, 6 and 14
Ratio of ages = 8:6:14 = 4:3:7 when reduced to the simplest form
Total ratio = 4+3+7 = 14
Total amount shared = $4,200,000
The sharing will thus be
Ada = (4/14) * $4,200,000 = $1,200,000
Ade  = (3/14) * $4,200,000 = $900,000
Ado = (7/14) * $4,200,000 = $2,100,000
